At Tulum Diving Center our two Silver Course Directors bring a level of experience that is unmatched. With a combined 70 years experience in diver training, they have the experience and knowledge necessary to assist you in being sussessful at becoming a PADI professional. There is a quality difference!
- In the PADI system Divemasters train to become Open Water Scuba Instructors in the Instructor Development Course (IDC), and qualify through successful completion of the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). Our IDC consists of three basic components, the Assistant Instructor Course, Open Water Scuba Instructor Course and the Emergency First Response Instructor Course. These can be completed as stand alone courses, or as a single program, the IDC. At Tulum Diving Center we also include the Oxygen Administration Instructor Course at no additional cost. Upon completion of the program set the candidate is then eligible to participate in an Instructor Examination (IE).
- The Instructor Examination evaluates the candidates teaching ability, dive knowledge, skill level and understanding of the PADI system of diver education. IEs are conducted over two days by an examiner using standardized, objective testing criteria. Upon successful completion of the IE, the candidate achieves the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating. IDC Prerequisites:
- Certified PADI Divemaster or Assistant Dive Instructor with current membership of PADI, or an equivalent leadership level certification with another training organization
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have proof of 60 logged dives
- Have medical clearance of fitness to dive, signed by a doctor within the past 12 months
- Hold proof of EFR training within the last 24 months
- Have been a certified diver for at least six months from any organization. To join an IE, you must have successfully completed the Dive Instructor Development Course (IDC) and be certified as Emergency First Response Instructor which we include in our IDC.
Course Length: 15 days
The first thirteen days you will be working with our Silver Course Directors to complete all components of the IDC, as listed above, including the free Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor Course. Then you will move on to the two day IE to complete the program.

- PADI Instructor Application Fees. (payable directly to PADI at time of IE)

- Equipment Rental Fees. Candidates must possess or rent all necessary equipment with exeption of tanks & weights. Equipment is available at discounted rental rate.
- Accommodation (We can give you information on any level of accommodation from Hostels to top level hotels, but each candidate is responsible for arranging their own accommodation)
