Cave (& Cavern) Diving Classes

For the Adventure of a Lifetime, and a Lifetime of Adventure!
There is a Quality Difference!
At Tulum Diving Center we offer the highest quality cave and cavern diving classes to be found anywhere. Our cave classes are exclusive semi-private or private courses, never more than three divers with an instructor, you will not be in a large group. We will work with you to find training dates to make the course your own. Although Cave & Cavern diving are similar, there is one critical difference. Cavern diving is limited to the light zone at the entrance of the cave system where the diver still has available light from the outside. Once you travel deep enough into the cave system so that you have no external light, you have entered the caves. Our programs begin with Cavern diving to teach you the basics needed to access the caverns. If you like it, we then move on to the cave diving courses, Intro to Cave and Full Cave Diver. Our class pricing includes training, all training materials, usage of all equipment, certification fees, cenote and park fees, snacks during the day. There are no other hidden charges. Our classes are formatted in such a manner that the vast majority of our divers are successful in completing each level in the time alloted. We do understand that different people learn at different rates, which is why all our classes are small private or semi-private courses. However, if a diver needs more time, additional training is available at $200 per day. Our safety protocols stipulate that prior to the beginning of any cavern or cave training, we may require one day of refresher and review diving dependent upon your previous diving experience. You will not find safer, more enjoyable or more up to date cave diving courses. Join Tulum Diving Center and Start Cave Diving Today!
We keep the smallest class sizes in Tulum. We want to give you the best experience possible. All of our Cave and Cavern courses are kept very small with only 3 divers maximum with an instructor. We can also arrange private courses for individuals if that is your preference. We want you to have a great experience diving with us.
TDI/PADI Cavern Diver Course
  • Our most popular specialty course.

  • The Yucatan Peninsula hosts the largest accessible, flooded underground cave system in the world. The purpose of the Tulum Diving, TDI and PADI Cavern Diver Specialty Courses is to familiarize you with the skills, knowledge, procedures of cavern diving. However, although the course introduces students to the myriad skills, procedures and techniques that cavern diving has in common with cave diving, the Cavern Diver course is not intended to certify divers for Cave Diving. If you are considering Cave Dive training, this course is the perfect introduction to the caverns to see if it is for you as well as being a prerequisite to the following Cave Diver Courses. The goals of Cavern Diver training are:

  • To develop your knowledge of the cavern environment.
  • To raise your awareness of the need for conservation and positive landowner relations.
  • To enable you to plan and organize dives to safely explore caverns that fall within the stated limitations of Cavern Diver training and that offer conditions as good as the caverns in which the student was trained
  • To give you a chance to get a feel for whether or not the full cave training is for you.
Our Cavern Diver Specialty Courses require three days in which you will do a minimum of four dives. You may find some other facilities offering the class in only 2 days, the bare minimum for the program. As with all our courses, we do not believe in doing only the bare minimum. Especially when it comes to cave diving, we want our divers to be the safest, best qualified divers out there. In the PADI Cavern Diving Specialty Course you can use standard diving equipment with a few small modifications, although sidemount is recommended. You can use sidemount equipment if you are already sidemount certified or are doing our Yucatan Combo Course to learn sidemount as well as cavern diving. In our TDI Cavern Diver Course you must use sidemount equipment. This course is a prerequisite to the Full Cave Diver Certification oulined later on this page. If you are planning on becoming a Full Cave Diver we require you get Sidemount Certified prior to taking this course, or join our Yucatan Combo Course to gain Sidemount certification. Sidemount certification is required to join our Intro to Cave & Full Cave Diver Courses. Cost: $770 US per diver. Multi-Diver Discount: three divers joining together will get a 10% multi-diver discount off the cost of the standard course
Course Size: Maximum 3 divers.
Prerequisites: PADI Cavern: 18 years of age and must hold an Advanced Open Water Certification. TDI Cavern: 18 years of age or 15 years of age with parental permission and Advanced Open Water certified. Must be Sidemount certified or doing our Yucatan Combo course

Cost: $950 US per diver.
Multi-Diver Discount: three divers joining together will get a 10% multi-diver discount off the cost of the standard course
