IDC Limited to 4 Candidates Maximum
Candidate to Course Director Ratio: 2 to 1
We are not the normal, large group IDC in which you receive little individual time and attention with your Course Director. We limit IDCs to four candidates maximum for a very exclusive, small group, IDC experience. With a 2 to 1 Candidate to Course Director ratio, we can give all of our candidates the attention they deserve. Your success is important to us.
We have never yet had an unsuccessful candidate at an IE.
- Course Components:
- The IDC consists of three basic components, the Assistant Instructor Course, Open Water Scuba Instructor Course and the Emergency First Response Instructor Course.
- Additional FREE Programs at Tulum Diving Center:
- At Tulum Diving Center we also offer the Oxygen Administration Instructor Course and Enriched Air (Nitrox) Instructor Course at no additional cost. This is a major step toward the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating that you will not get from other IDCs.
- You will also receive the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Instructor Course as well as PADI Aware and Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Instructor Courses.
- Instructor Examination (IE):
- Upon completion of the IDC, you will be qualified to attend the IE. Examiners from PADI evaluate the candidates teaching ability, dive knowledge, skill level and understanding of the PADI system of diver education. IEs are conducted over two days by an examiner using standardized, objective testing criteria. Upon successful completion of the IE, the candidate achieves the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating.
- IDC Prerequisites:
- Certified PADI Divemaster or Assistant Dive Instructor, or an equivalent leadership level certification with another training organization
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have proof of 60 logged dives
- Have medical clearance of fitness to dive, signed by a doctor within the past 12 months
- Hold proof of EFR training within the last 24 months
- Have been a certified diver for at least six months from any organization.
- To join an IE, you must be certified as Emergency First Response Instructor which we include in our IDC.
Course Length: 10 day IDC plus 2 days for the IE
The first ten days you will be working with our Silver Course Directors to complete all components of the IDC, as listed above, including the free Specialty Instructor Courses. Then you will move on to the two day IE to complete the program and become a PADI Instructor. The IE is not part of the IDC and is subject to enrollment fees payable directly to PADI at the start of the IDC.

What's Not Included:
- PADI Instructor Application Fees. (payable directly to PADI at time of IE)

- Candidates must have their own mask, snorkel, fins, boots and exposure suit.
- Accommodation (We can give you information on any level of accommodation from Hostels to top level hotels, but each candidate is responsible for arranging their own accommodation)

Payment in full is required to reserve your space in our small group programs. If your plans change, all payments, minus the cost of any study materials already supplied to the diver, and 10% cancellation fee, are refundable with 48 hour notice of cancellation. Cancellations within 48 hours start of the program art not refundable for any reason.
